Here it comes

GFS temp forecast for Friday morning

Summer couldn't last forever. The first major trough/cold front of the fall arrives by the end of next week, and the GFS model is painting temps in the low 30s in the mountains and upper 30s everywhere else in the state on Friday morning. That would likely mean the first frost for most of West Virginia, which would be a good 2-3 weeks earlier than normal. Forecasters aren't entirely buying that, as the GFS is known to have a long-range cold bias - but it will likely be at least jacket weather next weekend. I have a bike ride on the Greenbrier River Trail planned with some friends on Saturday, right in the middle of that blob of low 30s in the mountains. So, whatever the lowest temps end up being, I'll be in the center of them.

Either way, winter is not far off and I guess I'm as ready for it as I'm going to be. Got to go stock up on those heat packs now.
