From coastal hurricanes to Plains tornadoes to mountain flash flooding, the American weather machine keeps the inhabitants of the land on guard. Thankfully, advanced forecasting skill and warning times for weather disasters in the USA have improved significantly, keeping casualties low. But when the sky decides to open up, people in the path of the storm still have to sit up and take notice.
