VIDEO: Cars spin out and crash on icy bridge

Vehicles crash and spin out on the icy I-64 bridge over the Kanawha River in Charleston, West Virginia on January 21, 2007.

This video is available in High Definition from StormScenes HD.

"Bridge Ices Before Road" - those signs you see at nearly every bridge and overpass are there for a reason! Pavement on solid ground is exposed to cold air on only one side - but a bridge is exposed on all four sides, meaning it cools much faster than the road surface when temperatures drop. When you see rain or snow falling in cold weather, prepare for icy bridges, even if the rest of the roads are only dry or wet.
