The San Andreas Fault in Southern California - Photo Gallery by Dan Robinson

These images cover the "locked" portion of the San Andreas Fault in central-southern California from Parkfield to the Salton Sea. This section of the fault is considered to be adequately "loaded" with tectonic strain for a large earthquake that could occur at any time. Features visible in these images include examples of surface rupture offsets, scarps and other features revealing the surface trace of the fault. Note about fault labels: By default, many of the large versions of these images contain labels showing the location of the fault in the image. You can view the photos without labels by clicking on the "show without labels" link that is on each image description at the lower left. purchased prints of these photos do not contain the labels.
